Pigeon Valley Fire - Nelson

During the Pigeon Valley Fire, many agencies worked side by side to deliver a fast and coordinated response.

Fire and Emergency asked NZ Productions to film the operation so the teamwork and challenges could be documented.

During the Pigeon Valley Fire a wide range of agencies came together to build a swift and effective response

  • Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ) – led the firefighting effort.

  • NZ Police – managed evacuations and safety.

  • Civil Defence Emergency Management – coordinated community response and welfare.

  • NZ Defence Force – provided helicopters, equipment, and personnel.

  • Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) – supported affected farmers and livestock.

  • Local councils (Tasman District, Nelson City) – managed local services, welfare centres, and recovery.

  • Community and volunteer groups – provided shelter, food, and emotional support.

  • NZ Productions – filmed, documented, and interviewed agencies and teams throughout the response.
